Privacy policy

Red Rose Soap Company is two people in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This page says what information this website collects, why we collect it, and who else handles it. The short version: we collect what we need to send you the emails you asked for and the soap you ordered, and we don't sell any of it.

What we collect and why

The email list

When you join the list, we collect your email address and note where you signed up: the website, a bar label, our market table, or a social media link. We use it to send your confirmation email and welcome code, and after that an occasional email about new batches and the markets we'll be at. Our email service can also tell us whether an email was opened or a link in it was clicked.

Messages

When you send us a note through the contact form, we collect your name, your email address and whatever you write. We use it to answer you, and for nothing else.

Orders

Before checkout, we ask which state your order ships to so we can charge the right sales tax. You then pay on a checkout page run by Square, our payment processor. Square collects your name, contact details, shipping address and card details. We receive your order, your name, your contact details and your shipping address, so we can pack the box, ship it, and reach you if something goes wrong. We never see or store your full card number.

Your cart

Your cart is saved in your own browser so it's still there when you come back. It isn't sent to us until you check out, and it contains only which bars and how many.

Visiting the site

Like every web host, ours keeps technical logs of requests, such as IP address, browser type and the page requested, to deliver the site and keep it secure.

We use Google Analytics to see how many people visit, which pages they look at, and whether they came from a link such as our Instagram or TikTok profile. It sets cookies in your browser so it can tell one visit from the next. It records the pages you view, your device and browser, your approximate location, and whether you joined the list or placed an order. For an order it gets the bars and the total, never your name, email or address. We've switched off its advertising features, so this isn't used to show you ads. Google explains how it uses this information. The site doesn't respond to Do Not Track signals.

Who else handles your information

We use a few companies to run the business. Each one handles your information to provide its service to us, under its own privacy policy.

• Kit stores the email list and sends our emails.
• Square takes payment and keeps our order records.
• Netlify hosts this website and receives contact form messages.
• Google provides the visitor statistics described above.
• The carrier that delivers your order gets your name and shipping address.

We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't share it with anyone for advertising. We would hand information over only if the law required us to.

How long we keep it

• Your email address stays on the list until you unsubscribe.
• Messages are kept for as long as we need them to answer you and keep a record of the conversation.
• Order records are kept for as long as we need them for taxes and bookkeeping.

Your choices

• Every email we send to the list has an unsubscribe link.
• You can ask what information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by sending us a note. We'll do it, apart from order records we have to keep for taxes.
• You can keep your visits out of Google Analytics with Google's opt-out add-on.
• You can empty your saved cart, and remove the analytics cookies, by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Children

This site isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this page

If what we collect or who handles it changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
